Senior Advisor (Public Affairs)

About the role
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Relations and with one direct report (Strategic Relations Advisor) this role will see you work closely with member schools providing tailored media issues management advice. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Write media releases, media statements, opinion pieces and other corporate media related writing work

  • Maintain the annual calendar of media management activities

  • Write, edit and review corporate communications material (reports, forewords, event program content)

  • Develop positive relationships with local, state and national journalists as well as with media advisors within various government departments

  • Prepare content for multiple publications - news updates, electronic newsletters, website, direct mail

  • Liaise with member schools to identify positive school stories and promote these through various methods of communication

  • Provide support and advice to schools on media related issues

  • Assist with providing media training (for Board members, School Leaders/Principals)

Skills and Experience Required

  • 5- 10 years experience in a similar role. A background within the education sector is highly desirable though not essential

  • A journalistic background would also be an advantage

  • You are an accomplished writer - you will be writing media releases, report content, corporate media related pieces 

  • An exceptional and natural ability to foster relationships with a wide range of people and personalities - you will be engaging with media, school leaders, and internal and external stakeholders 

  • You possess excellent organisational and planning skills
